Welcome to Letters From a Young Matriarch. Let’s step into our power, together.

After my essay on matriarchy being the next wave of feminism went viral on social media, I realized there is a hunger for more knowledge about matriarchy.

As a writer studying matriarchy and societal transformation, this is where I share my knowledge.

Here’s what you can expect from LFAYM:

A vision for the future. To transcend patriarchy, we have to imagine something new and better. Expect tangible and realistic ways to implement matriarchy today.

🌀 Intimate reflections. I have the lived experience of womanhood (and motherhood) under patriarchy. So many of us share this experience, and I hope to convey the complexity and unique power of this journey with honesty and care.

📰 Commentary on current events. Dissecting the ways patriarchy shapes our world, from politics to pop culture, and how we can respond.

💌 An invitation to step into your power. You have innate strength. In these letters, we will recognize the ways patriarchy seeks to weaken us and remind ourselves of the power and wisdom that have always been ours.

Who am I?

My name is Nergiz. I’ve been writing and creating at the intersection of feminism and environmentalism since 2019. My matriline is Azerbaijani, and I was raised across three continents. Find out more about me here.

This publication is part of a larger project, which includes a book, to make matriarchal thought more visible.

Why matriarchy?

We already know that patriarchy needs to be dismantled. It cannot be reformed, because it will always snap back into its original form.

Patriarchy keeps going by convincing us there is no other viable way to live.

That’s why we need matriarchy. If matriarchy exists as a possibility, patriarchy crumbles.

Matriarchy is not an inversion of patriarchy, or hierarchy with women in charge. It’s an entirely different social structure, one that organizes around life instead of against it.

This publication is also a living experiment in the gift economy.

New letters are available to paid subscribers first, then released free after 30 days. Paid subscriptions help nourish the work in its living form and make its later release into the commons possible.

As an independent author and single mother building outside of patriarchal publishing, I am proud to be 100% reader-funded. Thank you so much for your support. ❤️
